At the age of five I vividly remember the walls of my home covered with vast canvases my Mother brought home with her from Beirut.

I grew up surrounded by remnants of a world which was mysterious, lavish and exotic, but to which I had little connection, living far away in Australia immersed in Science and Medicine.

I felt I had a foot in two very different world s.

My work springs from the ancient vessels of the near and far east. I love their simplicity of form and decoration which somehow tell a complex story of human history. They speak of trade and war, dangerous sea voyages and the mingling of disparate races.

A very human story.

I’m looking for the qualities of lightness and movement in my work. Creating forms which appear to float on the surface and sing, using delicate shapes and transparent, jewelled, light-filled, blue and green glazes.

What fascinates me is how the work creates a presence in a room, transforming the space like the vibrational language of Sanskrit.  Even a small work can emanate calm and mystery, bringing something exotic and distant, and enlivening the atmosphere around it.
